Intrauterine insemination (IUI):

What is intra-uterine insemination and how does it work? Intrauterine insemination (IUI) involves a laboratory procedure to separate fast moving sperm from more sluggish or non-moving sperm. The fast moving sperm are then placed into the woman’s womb close to the time of ovulation when the egg is released from the ovary in the middle of the monthly cycle. IUI is more successful in couples with unexplained subfertility of short duration and in couples where there are minor sperm abnormalities

How does IUI work?
Step 1: You will be given some fertility drugs to stimulate egg development and will be monitored with Tvs scans are used to track the development of your eggs. As soon as an egg is mature, you will be given a hormone injection to stimulate its release.
Step 2: Once ovulation is confirmed husband’s semen is collected, processed in lab to segregate motile and good quality sperms. A fine catheter (a soft, flexible tube) is then threaded into your uterus. Prepared semen is then inserted in uterus through the catheter. The whole process takes just a few minutes and is usually a painless procedure.
Step 3: You will be advised to take a short period of rest in couch before going home. You will be advised to take some medicines at home.
